Drywall/Sheetrock

Artwork hangs from them. Painted ones enhance the decor. They even help insulate a room. Walls are clearly a key element of a home.

So now that you are ready to complete the addition to your home, or you've finally decided to finish the basement, maybe it's time to install the drywall?

Whether you prefer to call it drywall, wallboard or sheetrock, there's one thing we can all agree on... it is one of the greatest inventions since the window! Drywall has saved homeowners thousands of dollars not only in the initial cost of their homes - but also in the cost of repairs.

Drywall consists of a thin layer of gypsum between two layers of heavy paper. It is used for walls and ceilings in most buildings today because it is both faster and cheaper to install than plaster.

Because drywall panels are manufactured in standard sizes - usually 4 feet by 8 or 12 feet sheets - our drywall installers must measure, cut, and fit some pieces around doors and windows. They also saw or cut holes in panels for electrical outlets, air-conditioning units, and plumbing.

After the drywall is installed, spaces between panels are filled with a joint compound, and then a trowel is used to press a paper tape that reinforces the drywall and smoothes away imperfections.

Flooring - Tile and Wood

Since early civilization, tile and wood flooring have been used by builders for durability, practicality and beauty. Tile floors are long-lasting, waterproof, and low-maintenance. Tile is used in entry ways, bathrooms and kitchens, and a current trend is to use tile throughout the home.

So what exactly is involved in tilework? First, our tile installer inspects the space to make sure it's level, and it is then measured, as tile comes in all different sizes - from less than an inch to over a foot. The installer will then cut the tile to fit the space.

Next our installer either uses a tacky substance called "mastic" or a cement to attach the tile to the surface. Using cement first requires that a mesh support be attached to the surface to be covered.

The surface is then scored using a tool that resembles a miniature rake. Then a second layer of mortar is applied and smoothed onto the backs of the tiles, which are then pressed into place.

After the cement adhesive or mastic has dried, the gaps are filled in between tiles with a cement called grout, the excess of which is then removed. Finally, a slightly wet sponge is used to make the seams even. This is hard, highly-skilled work.

Wood flooring adds warmth and charm to any interior and can last a lifetime, maintaining its beauty for years to come. Like tile, hardwood floors add value to your home. Wood floors are a timeless investment, offering a variety of species including Oak, Maple, Cherry, Hickory, Pecan, Pine, Beech, Birch, Walnut, and more.

Both engineered and solid floors are available in strip, plank, and parquet styles to achieve the best look for their environment. Hardwood floors offer several installation choices ranging from nail, staple, or glue down methods as well as some free floating options, depending on your needs.

If you are considering purchasing a lasting floor that adds value to your home hardwood flooring is the way to go. With its wide range of installation options, species, and styles to choose from, there is a hardwood floor that is right for you.

Carpentry

Our carpenters will work with you to develop a design, or they'll build from your plans. They are committed to ensuring you receive the highest quality of craftsmanship - something not always so easy to find these days.

The focus is to let reality govern your spending by using the existing size and value of the house as compared to the rest of the neighborhood to help you determine how much you want to invest in the project.

For remodels, we try to find ways to give the area or addition the same look and feel as the existing house, while using modern materials and observing modern zoning regulations and building codes.

We also build "rough-in" projects - we'll frame the structure & get it weather protected, and then you finish it as you wish - or we will complete the whole project.

Whatever your carpentry needs, we'll gladly help you. Please click here to fill out our contact form - someone will get back to you within 48 hours.
